Privacy Policy for Karda

Karda ("the app", "we", "us") is a reading app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Karda you agree to this policy.

We designed Karda to keep most of your data on your own device. We do not sell your personal data.

Information we handle

Information you provide

• Name — the name you enter during onboarding. It is stored on your device and is used to personalize the app. It is also associated with anonymous analytics (see below).
• Profile photo (optional) — if you choose a profile picture, the image is stored only on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers.
• Feedback — if you submit feedback, we collect the email address and message you provide so we can read and respond to it. This is stored in our backend (Google Firebase / Firestore).

Information collected automatically

• Reading activity & usage data — anonymized analytics events such as opening a book, reading session duration, creating highlights/bookmarks, searches, screen views, and theme/language changes.
• Anonymous identifier — when you first open the app we create an anonymous account (Firebase Anonymous Authentication). It is not linked to your real-world identity and is used to sync purchases and associate feedback.
• Device language — used to display the app in your preferred language.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or advertising identifier (IDFA), and the app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

How we use information

• To provide and personalize core app features (your name, reading progress, highlights, bookmarks, collections).
• To respond to feedback you send us.
• To understand usage trends and improve the app (analytics).
• To deliver and restore content you are entitled to.

Service providers

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, and Analytics) to operate the app's backend and analytics. Google processes this data on our behalf. See Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Data retention and deletion

• On-device data (your name, profile photo, reading progress, highlights, bookmarks, collections) can be removed at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which permanently clears this data from your device.
• Feedback you submit is retained so we can address it. To request deletion of feedback associated with you, contact us at the email below.

Children's privacy

Karda is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
